Stephen Green is the education and city government reporter for The Huntsville Item newspaper in Huntsville, Texas. He helped lead the transition for the newspaper away from Zope CMS to BLOX CMS, and authored a how-to and best practices guide for website and social media handling.
He is the former Editor-in-Chief of the Houstonian student-run newspaper at Sam Houston State University. He has also previously worked at the paper as the Associate News Editor, Viewpoints Editor, Lifestyle Editor, and Senior Reporter.
In addition, he worked with KSHU Channel 7 News as a news anchor and has worked as a 90.5 The Kat radio show co-host. Stephen is an SHSU alumnus from May 2014 with a BA in Mass Communication with an emphasis in Multiplatform Journalism, as well as a BA in Political Science. He is a former member of the Elliot T. Bowers Honors College and the National Lesbian and Gay Journalist Association. He was also elected as the President for the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association general convention in March 2013 and April 2014 after previously serving as Co-Secretary.
Stephen’s interests include higher and public education, national and state politics, public opinion, journalism studies, domestic policy, and technology. He has previously done research in the media’s effect on political incumbency in Congressional races, public perception of race and racism, opinion of the student newspaper among it’s readership, and is working on a study of discrimination at SHSU.
In what little spare time he has, he enjoys playing golf, writing fiction, watching TV, video games, swimming, and sleeeeeep.
